I just saw this via a site I use Not Microsoft
Means changing a program but the original Microsoft version could be OK for several months
Do not panic (Yet Confused)

quote:
Windows 95/98/Me/NT4/2000/XP -- Java Support
Sun's Java VM: Java version 1.1.7 (or later) is required...
Microsoft has aggressively pulled their Java download (msjavx86.exe) from Windows, Windows update, and from third party web sites via legal tactics, and has stated that they will no longer support Java (even security fixes) after January 2, 2004. So Sun's Java VM (above) is the recommended Java VM.
You can upgrade (new install not possible) your Microsoft Java VM by visiting http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com (or Start / Windows Update). Press the "Scan for Updates" button and then install the "Security Update: Microsoft Virtual Machine (Microsoft VM)" critical update.

PS Anyone know the Sun (Java) driver address? Roll Eyes

Visit http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html and, in the Download J2SE v 1.4.2_01 section under the JRE column, select either Windows Installation or Windows Offline Installation (recommended).

It's sad that Microsoft has been legally forbidden to continue to update (or even make available) their version of Java. The Microsoft Virtual Machine was widely praised, receiving numerous awards and accolades -- so much so that Sun Microsystem's (Java's inventor) clearly feared they'd lose control of their product.

Note that Microsoft is not Sun's only competitor in the Java arena, but only they have been restricted in this ridiculous fashion. Microsoft's excellent implementation made them the only serious rival, however, and I think that this, combined with the prospect of a lucrative settlement, was tinder for the lawsuit.

I have downloaded it with no probs Smile
Download time is about half an hour, after the installation program is downloaded 5 mins work.
I had to do it because a Java based program was demanding the Java upgrade already. NOT Jan 2004
So AP users watch out for that! Frown
