This is an odd question and not a critical one, but it IS annoying.

Sagus and I just bought a new computer.. in fact we had one made to our specifications.

The last week or so an odd, well.. File? has been putting itself on our desktop icon list. It had that generic Windows Word Pad notebook-looking icon with the Capital Letter "B" as the only thing being on the Wordpad page when you open the Icon up.

The name of that "file" is being labeled as "dxva_sig".

I keep deleting it and even tried keeping it but moving it into an unviewed Folder on the Desktop, but it keeps coming back.

What is it?

What does it keep coming back?

How can I make it go away permanently?

It's a known Bug and Its actually Caused by your Video Graphics card ATI Radeon card check Manual for Chip set name

Here is a Fix from 2004
www.atomicmpc.com.au/forums.asp?s=2&c=9&t=8449
quote:

Movie files where playing in a bunch of mixed colors as well as the dxva_sig.txt popping up on screen.

It seem to have something to do with the latest Radeon driver release.

Anyways the fix is a Codec 75 install.
But Windows being the POS it is - installing Codec 75 from good'ol MicroSoft ala:
http://codecs.microsoft.com/codecs/i386/voxmsdec.CAB

You can find security settings wont allow for this codec to be installed ...go figure!

So some kind person on the net made a quick and easy .exe that installs the needed codecs without the need for shitty windows security settings to be altered. YAY!

http://www.keystonelearning.com/company/support/files/Codec/codecpatch1.0.zip

OR easier way...Download and Install the Latest ATI Drivers
They always have Bug fixes every month Smile

File is 35 MBs

Apparently it's a bug in Windows that's associated with Windows mediaplayer 9 amd you can get rid of it by upgrading to mediaplayer 10 but mediaplayer 10 is a worse program than mediaplayer 9.

But if you upgrade to windows mediaplayer 10 and then upgrade to Windows mediaplayer 11, this site says that alone will fix the problem.

See this site. Otherwise you have to overwrite the file that creates dxva_sig and then delete it. (You overwrite it to beat Windows' security which won't usually let you delete their files.)

Thanks you all. Smile

I will have Sagus take a look for the fixes you suggested when he has time. Smile

We have AVG software on here so I didn't think we had an actual down-loaded virus.
