New version of Googles Desktop tool released today Still only for XP & Windows 2000
details here
And screen shots of the new toolbar lay out (looks extensive!)
Main feature is it features a new sidebar search http://desktop.google.com/screenshots.html
Don't know if it overwrites the old version or is a All new Build? Roll Eyes
I'm going to try it. The original download put an almost permanent 580 error message when I'd use it Frown (Other that that it worked Ok)
PS The original version download was 724K and this new update weighs in @ 1.32MB

Further info... the new version downloads as a separate file slightly different name Frown
That's the bad news......

Good news it installs over the top of the Version 1 setup, and the only message is it will display as the new version after you restart the computer.
Only job to do uninstall the smaller of the 2 versions in the Control Panel

I have got rid of the 580 error message Smile
Had to do a full uninstall and rebuild the Index Takes a while. Compiles it while the computer is on Idle Has to compete against any screen saver or the Seti program (suggest disabling it for a few hours?)
TIP The index on the New version is more accessible (as a History file) on the Google Desktop page (Not the normal Google Home page)
to the right of the search box there are 2 links the top one is for Desktop Preferences
The Lower one says Browse Timeline which takes you to a sort of History file page as on the Internet Explorer Home page. but Being Google it tells you where possible what's on those links Cool
I read elsewhere that Google are rumoured to be going integrate all the things they have developed in the last year or so into an viable Alternative to the IE/Netscape/AOL browsers Roll Eyes
From what we've seen I think the other browsers operators will have to do some Major work to keep up with Google... Game On! Razz
