Does anyone know why this

Trayclnt.Exe

program always malfunctions on my computer?

It does not seem to disrupt the use of the computer, however, it is forever failing.

I have an IBM 2153 E4N computer with 256-Mb of RAM.

You probably don't use it and even if you do, you don't really need it. All it does is launch MSN from the system task tray. This utility is a very common source of problems. Details below:

According to Paul Collin's Webpage,

"Quick way to connect to MSN Internet service - replaces "MSN Quick View" from V5.6 onwards" and it is listed as "Not Required".
"N" - Not required - typically infrequently used tasks that can be started manually if necessary
http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm

Click "Programs", then "Full List" and look up "trayclnt.exe"

You can click "Start" / "Run" and type in:
msconfig
Then click "OK". Click the "Start-up" tab and uncheck the "trayclnt.exe" (it may be listed as "MSN Internet Access"). Click "OK" and restart your computer when prompted.

You might also try re-installing the program, or updating it from MSN (There is a new version 8 out now).

I hope this helps!

To CraigYellick:

If Trayclnt.Exe s not needed, then how come I cannot delete or erase it.

I keep getting that same old refrain:

'Access Denied'

To Dwight:

I have unchecked the Trayclnt.Exe item in Msconfig. Yes, it was listed as MSN Internet Access.

I just installed MSN Version 8.0. I received a
CD-ROM Diskette from MSN on 11-06-2002.

MSN Version 8.0 DID NOT change the status of Trayclnt.Exe in my computer.

There are many ways a program can add itself to the task tray and many ways to automatically start with Windows. Without seeing it, I can't say for sure how to eliminate it. The other reply about msconfig should have prevented it from automatically loading, but other MSN software can stick it right back there again.

There's a good chance that somewhere in the bowels of the MSN product there's a configuration dialog with an option that allows you to control whether or not TrayClnt.exe is used in this manner. Of course it won't be worded "disable the annoying, buggy utility that you don't use". If you poke around you'll probably find it.

Hopefully someone else reading this message will be an experienced MSN user and will know how to tweak it.
