Picadillo

You know the great thing about Mexican food is that everything is fresh. Canned goods and frozen foods are rarely eaten here.

+1lb ground beef
+1/4 cup cumin whole or 1 teaspoon of ground cumin
+2 medium carrots
+2 medium potatoes
+3 roma tomatoes
+1/2 small onion
+1 clove of garlic
+salt
+vegetable oil
+1 serrano chile (if desired)

1. Put oil to heat in a large skillet. Then add ground beef. Add salt to meat.

2. Meanwhile cut up carrots and potatoes (peeled) into small cubes.

3. Once the meat is almost cooked add vegetables. Fry for about 5 minutes or until meat is thoroughly cooked.

4. In a blender mix tomatoes, cumin, garlic, onion, a pinch of salt, and 1 cup of water and the chile if desired and mix.

5. Add contents of blender to the meat in saucepan. Let it boil 2 minutes, contents will be thick. Add then 3 addition cups of water and let it boil on low heat until the vegetables are done.

6.This dish should be very soupy. Don´t let too much of the soup burn down. ¡Y LISTO!

Hey Ron. No usually this is eaten by itself and with tortillas of course. It´s supposed to be soupy because people here eat more soupy dishes because more people can eat from a small quantity of meat. Glad you liked it!
