Years ago I stayed in a hotel near Newmarket that was part of the Queen's Moat Houses Group. It reminded me in some ways of an American motel though that's scarcely relevant here. We were upgraded to a suite as well, I recall, though that's not relevant either!) Anyway, I liked the place, and when I was due to return to that part of the UK last month I tried to track it down. But I couldn't. So, has the hotel closed down or has it been sold off? And secondly, has the Queen's Moat Houses Group downsized and sokd off some of its properties? It just doesn't seem to have the high profile that it used to enjoy. Can you help? Fred? Anyone?

The Company had problems and the hotels were sold . In general these continue to exist as hotels but all under different names: some trade under the Crowne Plaza brand for example. I've no idea and cannot find which Moat House was in or near Newmarket. How near is 'near' Newmarket here? (There is no Crowne Plaza or other Intercontinental Hotels Group hotel closer than Cambridge). Hotels near Newmarket would include Swynford Paddocks (swish, rather classy, and in its own grounds, recommended ) and Bedford Lodge ( modernised and extended old house, in its own grounds. Too sterile for my taste )
This is where I get back to y'all with full details of the hotel's whereabouts, I suppose. In an ideal world, that is. But hey, come on, this was nearly 20 years ago. I remember trying to book a Town and Country Weekend back then (this was an up-market package for UK weekends away that you could get at realistic prices in the old days, and with very young children etc., money mattered. Moat Houses did a hotel in Bar Hill near Cambridge and another just the other side of Newmarket (say a couple of miles from the central square). We were traveling up to Beverley from France and our youngest was worn out. The hotel served dinner in our room and threw in (metaphorically that is) a bottle of wine. Memories, memories. On a wider front, I recall the Moat House at Stratford upon Avon a few years later (more up-market this one) and, later still, seeing another Moat House on the outskirts of Oxford a couple of years ago - though last time I was there I couln't find it ... Sic transit gloria mundi. Sorry to hear of the chain's demise nonetheless. But as to whether the Newmarket hotel was one of the hotels flagged up by Fred and Jenny, well, maybe it was. Who knows... But many thanks either way.
Ah! got it, many thanks. I honestly thought that I had exhausted every possibility to find the prices...I am sure that the 'Rates & Reservations' part was not there last time I looked! Anyway, thanks for pointing it out. I had learned everything there was to know about the hotel, but the costs, many thanks...
