I have a 2003 Hyundai Elantra GT. Lately I have been experiancing problems with the automatic door locks.
When I am at my boyfriends house, I park my car just a few feet from the front door. So, if I have to go out to my car for something, I just push the unlock button on my keyless entry remote to unlock the doors rather than take the whole set of keys with me.
Well this has happened to me several times now where I hit the button to unlock my doors and I go out there to get in my car and the doors are locked. They relocked themselves. I know this because several of those times I get right up to the door and I hear it lock and see my headlights flash.
Last night as I was getting ready for work, I unlocked my door with the keyless entry to get something out of my car. I unlocked the doors and got sidtracked inside the house. I saw a flash of lights (it was 11:20 PM)and thought it was his porch light. (it has a short and sometimes goes out on it's own off and on) but then Paul, my boyfriend, he goes uh-oh there goes your car again. It locked the doors...again...
this is very strange. I remember when I had my 1991 Hyundai Sonata, I had problems with the door locks. I did not have keyless entry but did have automatic locks. There was a short in the switch. The doors would unlock rather than lock though. I would be driving down the road and the doors would unlock. Or I would lock them before going into the house and they would unlock. (which is how my car got broken into and my stereo and all my cds got stolen) One time though I was in my car trying to get out and everytime I pushed the button to unlock the doors, the lock would pop up and then immediatly pop back down before I could get the door open. I thought I was gonig to get locked in my car.
Anyway, I have this problem with my Hyundai now, and the doors relocking themselves, but ONLY when I use the keyless entry.
I checked for recalls and there are only two (gas tank and rear brakes)
Anybody have any idea what might be causing this? Is this a common problem with Hyundai's?
Thanks
