Was wondering if anyone knows what I can do to repair a cigarette burn on a CLOTH car seat (which left a complete hole--went all the way down to the foam)..as opposed to using a vinyl repair kit as you would on a vinyl/leather seat.....Perhaps cutting out the burned part--matching the cloth--and then using some Loctite?

Thanks...

2 Door or 4 Door? If 2, then get the matching fabric from the part of the seat that only shows when the driver's seat is pushed forwards to allow back seat entry.

If you can remove the bench portion of the back seat, you can probably find some material that you can use. (You also may find some other "material", but that's another story.)

I really don't know, but the first thing I would try is a product used for clothes. I don't remember what it is called, but I used it to shorten the length of pants legs. Ironing tape may be the name for this type of product. You simply put the replacement fabric over the location you want it, then an old towel. Then use a steam iron. The steam "melts" the tape, which then forms a bond with whatever it gets in contact with. I've even fixed holes in shirts this way.

Try snipping the tips of the hard melted part as closely around the hole as possible. Leave as much material as you can. Get a needle and the same color heavy duty thread as the cloth. If it is blended, use the darkest color. Squeeze the material as close as you can together, fold down the sides into the hole. This is hard to do since the material is tight. Just concentrate on closing the very end of the hole together. At this point, you are just trying to make the hole a little bit smaller by sewing the ends together. Put your needle and thread in one side and bring around and pull up to the other side. Squeeze and pull the material together a little bit at time so you don't break the thread. Do this a few times and sew just the beginning of the corner of the hole together. Once you get the ends of the two sides sewn, keep squeezing the material and work your way down sewing and squeezing the material together. Make sure you pull all the way through so you can't see the sew line. Make sure you don't make the thread too long and you must pull the needle all the way through each time so it won't tangle up. you will probably have to rethread the needle a few times. Always make really close small stitches. Don't be in a hurry. You probably won't be able to get it totally straight but at least you won't have a hole there. It should blend well. I have done this more than once. It even worked when I turned in my lease car. They didn't notice. Wink

The Ironing Bonding tape is ideal for Making your Fabric adhere to the seat without stitching
and its in stock at Walmart. Could try a Sewing/handicrafts shop for the sameLink

Of course it's just my personal opinion, but it sounds to me like it will look better with the burn holes left intact. Eek

Well, of course it depends on the type of car you're driving. Wink

What the antiques trade calls 'distressed'. That's a plus because it shows age and use: forgers often fake burns and inkstains and the like, just to get the right 'look' Big Grin So stick with the burn Smile

It is BURN hole, dg. You are misreading it in proper English Smile

No, no, no, Fred! I just took a poll at the internet cafe here. Admittedly, most people are still slightly hung over, but there's general agreement that it doesn't look like "BURN", and it would have been much better to have written "butt hole" Big Grin
