My next door neighbor is getting ready to sell her little Dodge truck, one of those lightweight models. Somebody put a V8 in it, so it's squirrely as a stomped-on frog and very hard to handle. She wants $5,000.

Is a V8 in that kind of light truck an asset or a liability?

Who would want it and why? Not too practical or safe. Unless you are some kind of a HOT RODDER.

Catty, as a racer, I am in agreement with Kes. All that horse power and no weight to put the power to the pavement is asking for trouble. For everyday street use, if you were to hit the gas, you will probably loose control.

Now lets talk mechanical. If just the engine was changed and not the transmission, drive shaft and differential, they will not be able to handle the increased torque.

Thanks, Walks On, that is what I suspected, but it is good to have the technical explanation. Why anyone would put a V8 in that light vehicle is beyond me. I remember driving my brothers 12 cylinder Lincoln when I was a teenager - that was a trip!
