I've been asked to take an elderly lady to purchase a motorized scooter. She is hoping to get it free, using Medicare and her private insurance.

What questions should I ask?
What are the problems I should look out for?
Are extended warranties available and worth the extra $?
Any other help will be appreciated.

Some features to look are:

Can it be handled/driven with one hand?
How long does it take to charge it?
How long does the charge last?
How easy is it to get on and off?
Is there a storage basket for carrying objects with you?
How maneuverable is the scooter (as in how tight a space can it function in)?

Here is a consumer report website that deals with one brand, but perhaps the questions/discussion on there could be more general for you.

Here is another website that directly offers medicare paid for merchandise (with qualifying persons). Perhaps this will help also.
