Many many years ago when my dad taught me to drive, he told me that it was good do drive with lights on, even during the day, to assure you were seen. I have always done this, especially since I've almost aways had white cars.
My husband and I, just this week bought a burgandy colored 2002 Ford Ranger pickup. My husband asked me to Please not drive with the lights on all the time, as he feels its hard on the electrical systems.
I see people with lights on all the time during the day...is this bad for a vehicle?
The only ware and tare this causes is to the light bulb it self. In my case, most of my driving is in the daylight. I leave my lights on as a safety measure. I would rather change a light bulb then get hit or hit someone that did not see me.
I find it even helps me when I see those on coming lights. It helps me compute the distance and on coming speed of the other driver. This is helpful when I am planing a pass. How? you ask. By noting the distance between the lights. As the on coming car gets closer, the distance between them is greater. In daylight, you can not see this with the lights out.
Don't do like some people do and run with your "Parking" lights. Those are just for what they are called. PARKING. when I see those, I assume the car is parked.
The rest of the car's electrical system can handle the load of the lights with out any problems.
In some cases, most new cars have the headlights on when the key is on. I think it is the law in Canada.
Use them lights, it just may save you an accident.
As the bumper sticker states, "Lights On For Safety".

Keep your lights on ! Unless there is a problem with your alternator (and you said it's a new car so I'm assuming its OK) it will cause no more harm than your radio does !!!!
Since it's a 2002 I would figure it would come with "daytime running lights" anyway .. NO ??

Yessiree, always drive with lights on. No harm will come to the electrical system. I would estimate close to 70% less chance of a collision with another vehicle, where your lights and his or her lights are visible. Please do not use parking lights when driving.
I believe that having your headlights on all time will reduce your chance of collision. I think this is especially true of someone pulling in front of you from an intersection because they didn't see you.
