Yesterday something really weird happend with my car - a 94 Dodge Spirit. I drove to a restarutant, and the car was fine. When I came out to leave however, I turned the car on, put it into reverse, and it wouldn't move. The oil can light was on, and the steering wheel was locked. (FYI: My car doesn't automatically lock the steering wheel when it is in Park or off, so I know the car was in gear.)
I then put it into drive, and got the same results. After turning the car on and off, putting it into gear numerous times and getting the same results over and over, I gave up and called my mom to come get me. I just stood outside and waited for her, when she got there, she tried the car to see what I was talking about, and nothing was wrong with it then! It worked fine.
Does anyone know what in the world could have happened? It doesn't need oil, I checked that out.
Thanks!

I'm assuming you have power steering? And is it possible it was raining that day?
There is a problem specific to some Dodge cars. Driving through heavy rain or in deep puddles affects the tension of the power steering accessory drive belt.
This site has some usefull information regarding Power Steering Problems: mopar.com
Just as an FYI, there was a recall on some 1994 Dodge Spirits due to faulty safety belt anchors. And the 1992 Spirits had problems with the Steering components.Auto Recalls
I'd definately have this checked out by a mechanic you trust. If it happened once, it could happen again. And the next time might be while you are driving!

I've just done so more reading on this matter and there have been reports of the steering locking up while a car is in motion. This idea terrifies me - you could be driving along, take a turn, and your car won't! I wouldn't hold off on getting it looked at. In fact, I'd call a tow-truck to come and get your car rather than chance driving it.

that sure sounds like a problem with the key switch i would have a mechanic (goodone) look at the key switch . it can lock up while your driving. there, ssomething that,s either not ajusted right or something is broke.
