Hi.
Looking for some answers on a transmission for an old Ford Bus that I bought to help paraplegics. Transmission out of the blue will not shift normally into drive.Must accelerate to 50kms to get from low to second and to 80 kilometers to get to drive.( with a jerk) This sucker eats gas when it runs perfect but now devours it in city traffic. Have limited pension and would like to attempt fixing it myself. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Moose and welcome to the pool! Wow, big engine! Haven't seen one that big since I had my Cadillac with a 472 cid. Sounds like it may be a mechancal linkage (throttle)adjustment to me but it could very well be a computer problem or even a dirty transmission filter. Hard to say withoput looking at it. Best advice I can give is to go out and buy a maintenance manual. They always have a trubleshooting section and are very helpful if you have to make adjustments. Hayne's Best of luck with that and I admire your purpose of helping out!

HI THERE, BET YOU THOUGHT I FORGOT TO REPLY. The old girl is running like a top . I had paid 753.00 (just prior to the tranny problem) to have an emission test done, with the major cost going for a carb overhaul. It appears that the mechanic did not put a clamp back on the vacuum hose which was way back under the hatch cover. We had a break in the weather here and the old man was able to find the problem. Thanks for your feedback.
