I've got a 2002 Chevy Cavalier, and have recently been having a bunch of electrical problems.
My story begins with a rear window defroster not operating. No voltage to the heating elements at the rear window. Next comes a horn that makes a 'click' whenever you depress the button, instead of a 'beep'. I've also been losing power to my subwoofer amplifier at random times. I checked fuses and everything was as it should be. Then, last week I went to start my car only to find my battery dead.
I checked the fuses, and there was no problem there. So I bought a new battery and the car worked fine for about a week, when I was shocked to see that it was dead again. I suspected an alternator problem, but once the car was boosted I checked the voltages running from the alternator and at the battery terminals and everything checked out. I then turned off the computer and checked for a current draw from the battery when the car was off, suspecting a bad ground somewhere. I charged the battery and for the last couple of days the car has been working fine, except for the first problems with the stereo amplifier, the defroster and the horn.
I wonder if these problems are somehow related? And if not, can somebody help!?
boy it sounds like a lot of electrical problems. battery drain is caused by something that is on all the time maybe the amp is not conected right and its staying on all the time was this a new install or ?. horn problem could be wires not conected or a short between the horn button and the horn itself(also could be a possable battery drain).no voltage to the heating thingy could be another sorce of battery drain ie short. check the fuse panel and see if you can get behind it and look for broken wiresect. if the amp was a fresh install maybe the installer hooked up it to the heating thingy and possably shorted the horn wires or maybe its conected to the horn relay. lots of different things could be going on.check the fuse for power to the heating thingy. im sure one of those problems is to blaim for the battery drain you just have to eliminate each one one at a time and be sure that none of them are shorting out somewhere. hope this is of some help. wiring problems can be hard to get fixed but it can be.
