My Hyundai Accent CRDi seems to lose power when the tach crosses 4000rpm. Is this normal or should I ask for an engine job? It's a 1.6 lit diesel car.

Welcome to the pool. I hope we can be of service.

A little information is needed. The age and the mileage would help find you the answer.

If you feel that this car preformed better when you first got it, then my first guess would be it's time for a tune up.

Next, I am not sure what you mean by "lose power when the tech crosses 4000." How do you notice this?

The car is 27months old and has done 22000 Kilometers. I 'lose power' as if the clutch had slipped- the engine continues to make a racket but the car's forward acceleration (pick-up) becomes like zero, but only after I touch 4000rpm , below that the acceleration is terrific.

diesel engines have not the RPM level as gas engines they run and make power on lower rpms.
is this a stick shift or an automatic if a stick shift then dont red line the engine befor you shift. shift at a lower rpmmost deisil engines work on lower rpms Big Grin
