SRiggs	Posted My '94 Ford Escort keeps popping out of the upper gears[3rd & 5th]. Does this sound like the synchronizer? If so, how much approx. for a mechanic to fix or can a backyard mech. do it? If so, how?

teeceeum Platinum Enthusiast	Posted Hide Post It could very well be the synchros. Transmissions can be kinda tricky to work on. I can repair them and I would still take it to a pro. Where I live, it would cost around $500.

EBknowsBUBBA Gold Enthusiast	Posted Hide Post Several years ago I had a 5-speed in a GM product that popped out of 5-gear ocassionally. And it was the synchronizer. Seemed like it cost me around a couple hundred at that time. Probably at least triple the cost now.
