How many cars sold in the USA have manual gearboxes fitted as standard? Are there any regular sedans like that?

What are your regulations for driving a manual car? Do you have to have passed a test to have a license to drive one or is it OK if you pass on an automatic car but drive a manual later ?

There are no special requirements for licensing for driving a standard -v- automatic,I learned and was licensed on an automatic and then went to a standard (I'll never go back) the Motor Vehicles Dept. has never asked me what I drive, not when I got my first license, or when renewing or changing state of residency....If you pass the driving test and the written exam, you are allowed to drive either type.

I do not have numbers, but many,if not most, sedans are still available with standard transmissions...and most sports cars, pickup trucks and 4-wheel drive vehicles. The exception is the minivan, I do not recall ever seeing one with a standard shift, but I could be wrong

For passenger vehicles, the percentage is about 80/20 in favor of automatics.
