You mean you added the oil through the teeny-weeny hole where the dipstick goes? I'm not an automotive expert, but I believe that would get the oil where it needs to go. But how the devil did you accomplish it?

Clever for a dumb blonde  The dipstick channels the poured liquid, much like a glass stirring rod in chemistry lab, while guiding and anchoring the funnel. Now try filling the gas tank using an eyedropper.
