ok, we are trying to get an idling bylaw passed here, and the main complaint against it is that deisel trucks "need" to idle at least 20 minutes for them to work properly. we do live in an oil patch town, and a good many people here have deisel trucks (not just for work, but to go to the store, the drvie through, to drop the kids off at school).
can anyone help me dig up some facts on deisel trucks and letting them idle? ive found a couple things, but more ammo would be great.
oh and it does get to -40C at times here, so anything taking that into consideration would be awesome.
thanks Smile

I would bet semis would be exempted, since many of them have refrigeration units for which the engine must be running.

well one thing is that a diesel truck engine use's different oil and the engine does not turn as fast as a gas rig (RPM wise) its far better for them to idle than shut then down (its harder on a diesel rig's starter motor glow plugs ect) where a gas rig u just start it up and drive, a diesel rig need's warmed up (very high compression engine) a warm diesel engine will last many more miles than a gas rig. all this smog crap about a diesel engine is just that crap.
gas autos put out much worse than a diesel rig but because us tax payers can see the diesel smoke its the diesel rigs fault more so then the gas rigs.
