It is unlikely to be "timing" Because it Has a CDI system and they are fixed in one position.
As the other guy said "Compression" Has the bike had its Head Skimmed? Or new head/base gaskets fitted? Skimming too far increases the Compression Sharply ,Another possiblity is that excessive "Coke" has built up on the Piston crown.
(have you had any "running on " after you have switched off?) If so you will have to perform a "DECOKE",to check , bring the piston to the top of the stroke ,after removing the Spark plug(check condition of this also(will give you a good idea what is happening inside the motor)
Get a pencil and poke it through the plug hole if it feels very rough on top of the piston, then It is worth doing a "Decoke" if it is smooth then the Spark plug may indicate the problem area. which could be wrong grade spark plug? or "weak mixture" in the Carb(check air screw setting (turn right in then back screw off(see handbook for "exact" setting(must be precisely done))And lastly check for air leaks and choked or "missing/damaged" Air filter?
Looks a big list but you'll do nearly the checks inside a hour.

I rode and fixed bikes since I was 17(1973) until a bad accident 4 years ago

(gave away my age!)
