could it be because it needs the transmission bands adjusted ? I have brought it to a transmision place and it runs fine when they have it they say "there is nothing wrong" then I drive away and 20 or so miles down the street or when I slow down rapidly it pops out of gear and will not move in any direction ....I come back the next day and it's fine ... I have even jacked it up on four jackstands and let it run in drive for miles with no problem .....I have changed the transmision fluid and filter checked shifting linkage and visual inspection of motor mount's Eek

Automatic transmissions are far from my strong suit, but I don't think a simple band adjustment is going to fix your problem. I suggest that you check with a certified Jeep service technician as this may be something they are familiar with.

I completely agree that you should take this problem to a factory certified shop. You may want to do a little research about any recalls issues that may exist...if your Jeep was subject to a recall, and somehow the owner(you or the previous owner) missed it, it is possible that your problem can be corrected free of charge.

frown Great workshop if it can't work out whats going wrong inside your transmission (and they are the specialists?)if it was a manual box I'd say it was a worn syncro hub, but like the others I'm in the dark about auto boxes(far too complex)and I fix Cars and Motorbikes
Here are 2 sites...
1st: A site with lots of recall data (have to find your vehicle by year and model by the search control ok) you may find something relevant here?:auto recalls
2nd: A diagnosis list from a different vehicle listing a lot of the setup and fault finding for Auto transmissions (note:If you had said what manufacturers transmission it was. Possibly I could have found you a service sheet off the makers site)It's a bit long, but there could be a gem of good info in it?: Transmission Diagnosis
