Sometimes when I start the car, the gauges (speedometer, rpm, turn signals,etc-even the radio)will not turn on. I have to turn off the car and start it again, sometimes 2,3 or 4 more times. This has never happened to my husband and he drives the car more than I. Any ideas?

Thanks,

The car, to put it quite simple, just does not like you.....
An automobile is a masculine type thing, and men are the ones who understand their thinking....That is why women always have problems with them, they just don't think like men...
I suggest you go buy yourself a femenine type car- something on the order of a Lavender colored T-Bird...You know , something that a man would not buy, and I'm sure your troubles will soon be over....
Automobiles, believe it or not , really do have feelings.... roll eyes

Unlike the other answers I think I have the answer to you delemma.

Your car ignition switch has three circuits.

One is just to start the engine. This brings on only those items need just to start it.

The second is the operation. This bring on everything else needed to operate your car.

And lastly, the Accessory group. Like the radio. When you would like to operate your radio with out having everything else using power. Like at a Drive-In when you need to hear the movie. In case some of you haven't been to the Drive-In in a while, for the most part, those little speaker boxes are gone. You now use your car's radio to here full fidelity, stereo sound.

What I think is happening to you, is after you car has started, you are not getting the switch back solidly in the run position. I had a car one time that if I did not get it back right, the engine would stop.

Compare how your husband is doing it. It might be a case of feminine versus masculine touch. You might have to have it adjusted. In most cars, the key is mechanically connected to the switch located somewhere else.

I hope this helps.

I had a similar problem and replacing the ignition switch on my truck took care of. The return spring would not fully return the switch to "on" from the start position. WoW has given you a good lead.
