I can only recall once. Can't tell you the episode. Can't tell you how it happened. I just remember him being carried to see Doc. In the vagaries of my memory it seems things were touch and go for a while.
Okay, I just couldn't stand it. I have confirmed that he was wounded at least 5 times. the episodes in which he was wounded are: The Samaritan The Badge Lynott The Bullett Matt's Love Story There may have been more as I could only find episode descriptions for years six through 14. The site where I got this information is www.tvland.comThe Bullett is the one I remembered and it was a three-part story.
According to this article by Charles Memminger at starbulletin.com, which provides no specific reference:
"As near as I can figure, Marshal Matt Dillon was shot 43 times but the bullets never hit a major organ. The man was a walking flesh wound.
AND what's with the town doctor? What kind of mean doctor would put his office on the second floor? You come to Doc Adams with a broken leg and you have to climb the damn stairs. Get run over by a cattle stampede? Climb the stairs. Fall off a building? The stairs.
Maybe that's why Matt Dillon only got flesh wounds. If he really got hurt he'd be a goner."
His article has a "tongue-and-cheek" tone, so "43 times" may be made up to support his somewhat humorous point. What do you think?

"What a scam Kitty had going. Get the cowboys drunk, take their money gambling, show them cleavage as vast as the Grand Canyon and then kick their butts out on the street."
