Chapter 2, Peter Pan; Mr. Darling placed Michael's medicine bottle on top of a bureau, and misplaced it, not knowing that Liza found it and returned it to his wash-stand; He found it prior to going out for the evening.
(The question does not specify that he needed it on his person to go out).

Were you perhaps referring to his tie, which he could not tie, was around the bedpost, and his mother tied it for him? (If he did not go out, he said he would never go to the office again).

Mr. Darling didn't need his son's medicine. Something that he needs in order to go out has been misplaced. That something is the answer to the question. (The tie wasn't missing; it was, as you say, on the bedpost.)

That is not the answer I am looking for. I don't recall the glasses; I would have to go back and look at the film again to know if the glasses fit the question.
