This question came to me whilst watching an old musical on TV. How many people have played the "Showboat" character Gaylord Ravenal in the cinema(I don't mean made-for-TV versions)and who were they? P.S.There is a catch! Viv.
Actually Howard Keel was not the original Gaylord Ravenal,in fact he was the last actor to play him on the big screen! 09-13-02, 04:32 PM VivienneHa That was the answer I was hoping for (so I could be a smart ass!),but I did say there was a catch,there were actually four actors.The musical that I mentioned I was watching when the question came to me wasn't "Showboat" but "Till the Clouds Roll by" the biopic of Jerome Kern in which large sections of Showboat are shown,with the character of Gaylord Ravenal being played by Tony Martin.
