I am going to visit a friend in the USA (I am in Ireland). He does not have a free-standing DVD player, but can play DVDs as part of his PS2. His PS2 says it is Region 1 (= USA) only, but my DVDs are Region 2 (= Europe). I would really like to bring some DVDs over to watch.

Here in Ireland, most DVD players are multi-region, or if not, they can be tweaked easily to play DVDs from all regions. I am not sure if that is possible with PS2s, especially as my US based friends don't seem to know about regional DVDs?

Thanks bedstor. I found the answer after what the guy in the other forum suggested and I did a bit of a websearch. There is a "thingy" you can buy that makes the PS2 multi-region: http://www.modmonster.com/browseproducts/PS2-DVD-Region-Free-%28USA-Version%29.html

I have some news for you the disk is Ok for North American TV standard (NSTC) But we in the UK have a different Standard (PAL) so our disks won't play on their machines Frown If it was on a computer Monitor there is sometimes only a small adjustment to make to Preferences on the Dvd player and/or the Video Player software Wink
Must be an answer to this, someware such as an adaptor card to change over the Broadcast Standards? Roll Eyes
If it was France the DVD would be viewable but only in Black and White Confused(They Operate under the SECAM system)

A typo Bedstor, not NSTC but NTSC ?
.
Note:
NTSC stands for Never Twice Same Color.

PAL is Phased Alternate Line

SECAM is French for "de Gaulle wanted this because it's French, however badly it works (and we can sell it to the Russians)"
