With the recent price drops, I'm thinking about updating to the next generation of gaming systems: PS2, XBox, GameCube. I'm leaning toward the PS2, but any thoughts on the other systems would be appreciated. It's still a pretty good deal, even if the rumors are true. ************************************************************** 06-05-02, 12:11 AM Good Ol' Boy 14 Y'know, I tried for so long to stay loyal to Nintendo, but dang it, they've lost me. All the hocking of the different colored game boys and crap like that aside, when the N64 came out, I had high hopes. It was a powerhouse for its time. However, the games were so "kiddy" that I lost almost all interest in the machine. Next, they come out with the Gamecube and finally drop the cartridge format for CD's, but make their CD's a different size so that their machine cannot play music CD's or anything else other than a Gamecube CD. Bad move, going with closed architecture like that. It's what killed Apple computer's dominance in the 80's. Nonetheless, the Gamecube is a powerhouse, moreso than the PS2. I fear that the game selection will be crap though. Then there's the X-Box. It also outpowers the PS2, and is an excellent piece of machinery. The games at present seem decent, but lack the big kicker game that defines the system and brand (ex: Super Mario Brothers for NES, Sonic the Hedgehog for Genesis. How about for the X-Box, "Bill Gates the Turtle"? lol). The X-Box just has a blandness, possibly because it seems like, and technically is, a PC in console system's clothing. The bottom line comes down to game selection though, and PS2 has it hands down. With the entire PS1 32bit library as well as the new PS2 library, this machine is the best bang for the buck choice. Oh, one more thing, RIP SEGA. Nintendo's GameCube is actually quite good value. With games like Gauntlet: Dark Legacy, and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, it much more than a kiddy system. Plus, it has the most advanced graphics out of the three. To add to this list, what used to be Sega Enterprises is now releasing Sonic Team and most of Sega Sports solely to Nintendo. So, it has the two oldest gaming corporations backing it. 17 years is a long time, my friend. Sony and Microsoft think they can use computers to make better systems! I say PS2, Now I'm not sure about XBOX but PS2 can, as well as games, play DVDs. So, not only can you play your favorite games but you can watch your favorite movies as well.

Well it may be true that Nintendo may has been, " In the game" longer than Sony but you know what they say, " Out with the old and in with the new" so I say go with PS2, and how he said it's the "game that counts!" that's why I say Go with PS2. to prove this theory, find a friend with the game GTA3, I think you might see my point. And if shooting games aren't your thing go buy one of the many RPG, Sport, Strategy, Puzzle, or whatever your fancy is type of game. Not only are the graphics supberb but the gameplay is awesome as well.

Game Boy Advance went double platinum I believe after however long the period was. It is the most sold platform in the video gaming industry. It just goes to show Nintendo isn't exactly a fossil. Nintendo has come out with 9 platforms, and Sega has come out with 6, compared to Sony with 3 and Microsoft with 1. Numbers, my friend, numbers. Ever heard of E3? It's the worldwide event of the year for video gaming. With Sega using up about 70% of its resources with Nintendo, GameCube was the highlight of the show. The next E3 is coming up soon, and you might want to read into it for a decision.
PS: Graphics: Take a look at Mario's hat or jeans, or look at the hairs on Sonic's head. Do PS2 or XBox get hat in-depth? Xbox, however, gets more of a higher level of violence, and with dark games......(u noe, the brightness really matters....gc looks cartoony, xbox looks over-realistic). No, this is not another obviously-futile attempt at polishing the Big G. Anyway, SSBM, for instance, requires only a few seconds to load a battle arena or character select. The earliest GBA game in the States was in June, 2001. Wario Land 2 for GBC was the first there and it came out in March of 1998.
