One of my husbands' friends is going to be moving in with us for a couple of months. He'll be paying us rent and all. Should we write up a simple rental agreement, do you think? Like, what if two months turns into six and we want to kick him out -are we allowed to "evict" someone without a signed agreement? How does that work? And if we should have something, what should it say and where could I get one?

Thanks!!

Didn't a movie just come out with this premise?

I would think that in order to protect both sides in this, there should be some sort of formal rental agreement which both parties sign on to. It should include amount of rent, date due each month with grace period (if any), length of stay, escape clause, expectations of renter and rentee (e.g., will he have full access to the living space? can he have "friends" spend the night, have parties? recompence for any damage he may cause? etc.)

Good thoughts, JR, thanks!! I better put something together soon, he's moving in this weekend!

Yeah, I heard that movie totally sucked. But it should be all right. We don't have a bathroom right off our bedroom. Wink
