We lived most of our lives in Oklahoma, then moved to northwest Washington state. We aren't completely satisfied here and are considering Santa Fe. It's a great place to visit but I'd like to hear some views on the BAD things about Santa Fe and New Mexico in general. Are there reasons we wouldn't want to live there? We're both 61, retired, no kids. We like the mountains but don't ski. Love upscale restaurants and we shop at Wal-Mart so our spectrum is pretty wide. Thanks.

Washington State is beautiful, much like where I live Do you just desire a drier climate?
One of my boss' lives in Las Cruces, NM and just loves it there. I haven't been there personally except to drive through, but it definitely has its attributes.
I've never been to Santa Fe NM but I understand it is an artist colony and very expensive. Other options along the same line would be Sedona, AZ or Tubac, AZ. Both expensive also!! Lots of retirees, mountain views, Walmart (don't know about "upscale" restaurants, probably in Tucson or Phoenix). Figure at least $4K for a home in Tubac or move a little farther away and get a nice home for $2-3K. You could rent a home in Green Valley, AZ for the winter just to try it out and see if you like Arizona.
