My little sister is going to move into the house my uncle left to us after his recent death. My question is this: my uncle had a roommate, who did not pay rent. They apparently verbally agreed on a "no-rent, just help out around the house", type of thing - my uncle was like that - never in it for money. We are letting this man know of our intentions to move my sister in and I would like to know what kind of notice he would need, if any, under these circumstances, to vacate the property. We think, for decency's sake, at least he should be given 30 days to find other living arrangements. We live in PA. Anyone have any imput?? Thank you!

Well he'd still be considered a
tenant, whether he paid rent or
made this other arrangement.

See if this is helpful:

Here are some more links, specific to Pennsylvania:

Pennsylvania Tenant's Rights
Pennsylvania HUD Tenant's Rights

I couldn't find any landlord links (Google search)...just links to purchase books and forms. The above links should give you good information.

Tree is right; even though he didn't pay rent, he can still be considered a tenant. 30 days notice should be sufficient unless Pennsylvania law requires otherwise.
