This may not fit the category exactly but I don't know where else to ask. We're retired and are thinking seriously about moving from Oklahoma City to western Washington (Whidbey Island, Port Angeles, etc - not Seattle.) Our recent two week vacation/real estate search has made us think seriously about retiring to a place much smaller than where we've been living. We aren't totally "city folk" as we live on five acres outside of town and don't mind driving 20-30 miles to go eat or shop. We're used to a large selection of nice restaurants, home improvement stores, bookstores, volunteer opportunities, etc and don't know if we're ready to give that up - even for a place where the weather and scenery are much better. Family ties are not an issue.

I'll appreciate any advice, maybe something I could read....Thanks...

Cindy - I just recently moved Here a few months ago, and I absolutely love it.

Coming from a midwestern city, I could see the big difference for you, whether here on along the Washington coast, would be the weather. Although very mild most of the time, it is quite wet Roll Eyes

But if you don't mind the rain, this area is a goldmine for arts, recreation, and yes, volunteer opportunities.
