There seems to be some controversy over this.
The most popular belief is that it was Mellin de Saint-Gelais/Gelays (1491-1558).But the other claim is that it was written in 1536 by Clément Marot.
This link shows a page from The First French Sonnets by Walter L. Bullock Which discusses the arguement.

Good answer Viv. Thanx. Smile
Sonnet (from Italian sonetto, a small sound or song). If Clément Marot was the first French poet to publish one, in 1538, the honour of composing the first French sonnet usually goes to Mellin de Saint-Gelais (1533/4).
