What was the subject of the 1623 book recently recovered some 10 years after it was stolen from Durham University ?

This was one of the books that was allegedly stolen by the notorious Mr Scott, was it not? He is apparently a full-time book thief, but perhaps "eccentric 'collector'" is closer to how he sees himself. The police found dozens and dozens of rare books and manuscripts in his modest home. His mind may be going, because he took this one to be inspected by some expert who, I think, was in Durham ( not that that made a great deal of difference, considering what the book was)He claimed to know nothing of books and said something along the lines of having been given this one by a friend from Cuba.

The date gives a clue: it's the date of one of the first folios of Shakespeare, which this book was.

It turns out that his obsession, and life's work, is an example of 'Love's Labours Lost'

Spot on ! It does seem like this person was one obsessive book thief. Lived at home with mother in a modest house packed full of books, but had a silver Ferrari and Armani suits. Oh well, reading in Armani has to make one feel wiser !

Thanks for the answer !
