The Epic of Gilgamesh
is usually considered the oldest poem in the world. The link states somewhere between 2750 and 2500 BCE but i'm not sure whether this is the supposed date of the poem or the dates of reign the King of Uruk whom the poem is about.

According to Wikipedia:Gilgamesh's supposed historical reign is believed to have been approximately 2500 BC, 400 years before the earliest known written stories.

The earliest Sumerian versions of the epic date from as early as the Third dynasty of Ur (2100 BC-2000 BC).

I have a contender Smile At about the same period in time a "love poem" was written and could be the oldest poem. Click here.

We are both right until someone proves otherwise.
