This is part of a famous poem, can you name poet and poem?

Flash'd all their sabres bare,
Flash'd as they turn'd in air
Sabring the gunners there,
Charging an army, while
All the world wonder'd:
Plunged in the battery-smoke
Right thro' the line they broke;
Cossack and Russian
Reel'd from the sabre-stroke
Shatter'd and sunder'd.
Then they rode back, but not
Not the six hundred.

That was The CHarge of the Light Brigade, I believe, written about the Crimean War. The British general made several foolish decisions, only some of which were a result of poor or no information, and one of which was a result of a misunderstanding. While I am not a military man, it does not seem advisable to charge into a valley with cannon located atop, firing at you, especially with no one covering your flanks. There was much ado about this in the British press at the time.
