That was The CHarge of the Light Brigade, I believe, written about the Crimean War. The British general made several foolish decisions, only some of which were a result of poor or no information, and one of which was a result of a misunderstanding. While I am not a military man, it does not seem advisable to charge into a valley with cannon located atop, firing at you, especially with no one covering your flanks. There was much ado about this in the British press at the time.
