The name of what form of entertainment is ultimately derived from the name of a place, a valley, in Normandy? It takes place in theatres.

So I am P****d off with him, and am not standing for it anymore. Big Grin

Thank goodness for that. Men can't hit the target standing Roll Eyes

[Further reply is, and was, unnecessary.Do North American quizmasters say 'Thank you' every time a contestant answers correctly? Confused If they do, they have a quaintly strange idea of politeness Big Grin]

Well, we are terribly polite here!
No, 'thank you' isn't necessary, Fred, just an acknowledgemnt that we got the answer right.
Come on, they do that much on University Challenge.Smile

You need to be told? Roll Eyes

As a matter of fact, the word is not from 'voix de ville' but from '[chanson du] vau de Vire', later corrupted by the French themselves to vau de ville, now 'vaudeville'.Your link did give the correct answer as its second derivation. (Not worth the bother of posting a correctamundo, even so Smile)

Its proper name in English is 'music hall' but we forgive you that because we know just how much you Americans love the French Big Grin
