The first issue of Mad Magazine was actually issue #24 - it was a pic of the "Mad" Uncle Sam - with the words "Who needs YOU!" It was the July 1952 issue.

"Tales Calculated to Drive You Mad" debuted with its Oct/Nov 1952 issue. Number 24, the first "MAD" Magazine, arrived in July of 1955 and looked like this.
