Which great artist was not allowed to wander the hallways of museums where his masterpieces were housed during his later years (without a "chaperone") ...and why??? ++++++++++ 06-18-03, 11:24 PM Tree I think it was Van Gogh!
He lost an ear, therefore his equlibrium was off.. and he stumbled into walls - therefore paintings fell to the ground!
06-19-03, 12:42 AM DorianGreyed I don't think Ven Gogh was in museums at the time of his death, and cutting off the outside of his ear shouldn't have affected his sense of balance. My guess is Toulouse-Lautrec. I think he was in the Louvre before he died, and I know he was in very bad shape by then. He was found of absinthe, which was made from wormwood. That destroys brain cells even more that just plain alcohol. Any absinthe sold in the US now has a substitute flavoring. He spent several years, I think, in institutions. He was regarded as mad at that time, and may have acted very irrationally.
06-19-03, 07:28 AM Lydia Sorry kids.....you're both wrong - very imaginative though Tree Wink
06-19-03, 06:33 PM Kelleygirl Salvador Dali --he developed Parkinson's Disease and had trouble walking. (?)
06-21-03, 05:50 PM Kelleygirl Hey, Lydia, did I get it? What's the answer or a clue?
06-21-03, 07:28 PM Lydia Sorry Kellygirl, I hadn't seen your answer - - but no, you are not correct.
I will tell you the why and then see if anyone can get the who.....
The reason that "He/She" was not allowed to wander the museum alone was because they were caught with brushes and paint trying to perfect their works..... Eek
06-26-03, 12:35 AM Kelleygirl Lydia,
Stumped---any more clues????
All that comes to mind is Picasso---it's obviously someone who became famous before their death.
06-26-03, 09:42 AM Lydia Kellygirl!!! No more clues necessary!!! You got it - it was, indeed, Picasso! He wasn't allowed to roam the halls alone because they caught him in the act, brushes & paint in hand, trying to perfect his own masterpieces!!!!! Big Grin
06-26-03, 09:44 AM Texan-In-Exile Wow! Now THAT'S dedication! Big Grin
06-26-03, 12:24 PM Sherasi Or obsession!
06-26-03, 06:06 PM Kelleygirl About Picasso, I've heard (don't know if it's really true) that in his later years --cuz he was soooo famous---when he wrote a check to someone, he would add a little doodle on the check itself. And, no one, then would cash the check cuz they'd rather have own an actual Picasso "print" then be reimbursed for whatever the check was worth. Now that's how to float a check!
