Anyone have recommendations regarding a choice between RR and DSL service? No heavy duty computing, just internet & e-mail.

I have road runner at home. I only use it for email and research for work, (and ofcourse being on here) but for me it is well worth it. I am an impaitent red head, so to make sure I DON"T throw my computer out the window, I opt to pay the outragous fees for road runner.

I have had both. Unless you download many things you probably wont really notice the difference. I have teenage kids and we all download a lot of music. Road Runner flies at about three times the rate if not faster. I would consider cost if you don't do a lot of downloading though. If it is comparable, definitely go with Road Runner. It's good.

This is really not possible to answer without knowing where you are on each systems nodes. With RR, your performance will decrease as the number of people accessing the internet in your area increase. With DSL your line is "dedicated", but only from a trunk point in the system - to your house. So, effectively your dsl performance decreases with your "distance" from the internet backbone.

My old DSL was far better than my current RR. Had to switch when we moved offices.

But..I have several associates who's RR performance was better than my old DSL, and I have several associates who's RR performance is worse than my current RR.

There is no definite right and wrong. If there's anyone in your area that has either try them, your performance is likely to be similar to those close by - but random comparisons from the web are meaningless.

Interesting info! I have DSL now. When I lived in Ohio, i could get RR. The download time was over three times faster than what I can get now.

I would definately advise to go with RR. I love it!(It does cost a bit more) but I have found it much faster!

If you are the only guy in your neighborhood that is considering getting RoadRunner - get road runner. Cable has a top speed of 3mbps (if there are other people in your neighborhood that use cable internet that speed will decrease) while DSL has a top speed of 1.5mbps.

Both are aboput the same price. Another thing to consider is www.dslreports.com
That site has lots of info on the services plus customer feedback so you know what byou are getting into.
