First, what kind of browser are you using? Tell us about your server as well.(is it msn 9)?
To see whether your browser is configured to use the Java™ 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (JRE) or not, first open the Windows Control Panel. From the Start menu button, select Settings, then Control Panel to open the Control Panel. You should see the Java Coffee Cup logo™ icon in the Control Panel. Double click the icon to open the "Java Control Panel" In the "Java Control Panel", select the Browser Tab Make sure the box next to Internet Explorer, Netscape, or Mozilla is checked If it is not checked, click the checkbox to enable the JRE for your Web browser Click the Apply button. If you do not see the coffee cup icon in the Windows Control Panel, you do not have the latest version of the Sun JRE installed on your computer.

The Sun.com Java link is safe On the Security Settings in IE, You can enter the sites name into the "trusted sites" section if that is of any use? This will aid logging on if the security is set against it displaying? Following up on Mozarts suggestion downloading the Sun Java program is worth it because the original MS Java support is being run down (Had a big legal row about it) Ps If you are on XP you may have to go into Add /Remove programs to change over the access in the "Program access and defaults" section? Labelled Microsoft Virtual Machine and retain access to the Old MS Program (single tick box)
