Ok, so this really isn't a problem, but it's really really weird so I just thought I'd post about it and see if anyone knows how this could happen...

I'm currently online using a dial-up connection that's running on the only phone line in the house. However, the phone just rang and my mom is talking on it. How in the world is this possible????? Again, there is only one phone line in the house, and I'm using it for dial-up internet access. Confused

Are you using a device like "catch-a-call"? Information here

Does your computer have a 'modem on hold" function? More here (V.92 standard modem) Example here

Thanks for the reply Dwight, but I figured out what happened. (I feel REALLY REALLY dumb now by the way!) I thought I was on the dial-up connection, but my laptop was picking up a wireless internet signal from a neighbor or something, and in fact I was connected to that! It's still kind of weird though because I remember opening the dial-up connection and it dialing in, but I guess the computer intercepted the wireless signal before finishing the process.

Anywho, so that's what happened, boy do I feel stupid! haha Roll Eyes

Easy error to make, I've done the same thing...if you like, you can set the wireless connection to show an icon whenever it is conected. This would appear down by the clock display.
Start --> Connect to --> View all connections

Right click on your wireless connection and choose "properties"

Check the option to display when connected.
