On a daily basis I'll be on line (usually here), and will get a pop-up error that states:

Explorer has caused an error in SHDOCVW.DLL and Explorer will now close. If you continue to have problems you may need to re-start your computer

The biggest pain about this is that when I click the close box on the error message, I get kicked out of wherever I am.

Anyone have an idea what might be causing this and how I might fix it? Remember...I'm not really knowledgeable about software & trouble-shooting my system, so if I need to do something please explain big grin

Thanks! giz

If you've installed an updated version of Internet Explorer, a repair tool is included. Click Start, point to Settings and click Control Panel, then double-click Add/Remove Programs. Double-click Microsoft Internet Explorer... in the programs list, and choose Repair Internet Explorer.

If you've updated but Internet Explorer is not in Add/Remove Programs, you can also launch the repair tool via Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information, Tools, Internet Explorer Repair Tools.

If the tool reports that the repair could not be completed, you should uninstall and reinstall Internet Explorer. If Internet Explorer does not appear in Add/Remove Programs, or "Restore previous Windows configuration" is disabled, there are a number of choices --

(1) You can run ieXsetup.exe (X will be the current version of IE) in the C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer folder to reinstall Internet Explorer.

(2) Rename the iemigrat.dll file to iemigrat.dll.old, reinstall Windows, then reinstall the desired version of IE.

(3) If the repair tool lists files whose versions are incorrect, you may be able to extract the files from the Internet Explorer CAB files, and copy them to the correct folders. This typically must be done in Safe Mode, although some files may need to be replaced at from a DOS prompt (without Windows runnning).
