How long has the internet for public use been around?
Specifically, how long have internet games been in use? The kind that pay off in tokens?

A person in chat said they'd been playing 10 years to amass 20 million tokens (I forget the game). I suspect this person just doesn't want to admit to sitting in front of the computer day and night.

Not someone I know.....probably never see them in chat again....it just raised my curiosity.

Thanks.
Cyndi

First computer game came out in 1962 called SpaceWar! for a computer called the PDP-1
First online Game was the 2 player version of the same game in 1969 (over a remote network) what we call a LAN these days
The Public Internet was at least 5 years away

Rick Blomme writes two-player Spacewar on PLATO. It works on the remote network, so it is now true network gaming.

As for the Token games I think they started when Java and Flash came out in the
early/mid 90's
