Today, i have gotten several internet explorer errors that causes the internet to close. Sometimes it just closes on it's own. Just poof, closed.

Why would it be doing that? What causes these errors?

You may wish to run the Internet Explorer Repair Tool, which can repair program errors that can cause this kind of problem.

You didn't mention what Windows Operating System you're running, but give these steps a try...

1) Click Start

2) Click Settings
Depending on your system, you may not see this...just click "Control Panel"
3) Click Control Panel

4) Click Add-Remove Programs

5) Scroll through the Program's list to Microsoft Internet Explorer
There will be a program version number displayed.
6) Select Microsoft Internet Explorer

7) Click the Add-Remove button
Again, depending on the Windows Operating System version, there will some slight variation to this. WinXP has a "change" or "remove" button. Click "change" if you see this.
8) Select the "Repair" option, click OK

9) Click "Yes" to allow the repair tool to run

10) When prompted, restart your computer

11) The restart will take longer than normal, and you will see a "Updating Settings" notification dialog box during the startup.

12) After the restart completes, open Internet Explorer. You may be asked if you wish to use the same settings for your Home page and you language preference.

If this doesn't correct the problem, please post again with your Windows Operating System information and the Internet Explorer version number.

This page will help you to identify the requested information.

I hope this helps!

Give this a try. Go to Start/Search and look for the Internet Explorer setup file: ie6setup.exe

When you find it, double click on it and have it reinstall.

You will probably need to do an "advanced" search for hidden system files. You also may need to go to the Windows Explorer and click the "Tools" menu and then Folder Options, "View" tab.

Check the option to show hidden system files and folders.

Uncheck the option to hide file extensions for known file types. This will allow you see the file extension portion of the filename (the .exe portion).

Hopefully, reinstalling the Internet Explorer program will fix this crash problem.

Also, with reference to cap'n kane's post, have you made any recent changes that you can correlate to this crash problem?

Kalena, install and run Lavasoft's free Ad-aware to identify and remove "malware" programs.

Before starting the scan, click Check for updates now, Connect, and OK to obtain the latest signature file. I suggest you scan, then restart the computer and scan again to remove any remnants.

To reinstall Internet Explorer, click Start, Run, cut&paste rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir%\Inf\ie.inf and press Enter.

If you wish to use the Internet Explorer repair tool, use the following method to install it.

  1. Download ie6setup.exe.

  2. Click Start, Run, type Regedit and press Enter to launch the Registry Editor.

  3. In the left pane, if any Registry keys are already expanded, click the " - " characters to collapse the lists.

  4. Double-click the Registry keys

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SOFTWARE, Microsoft, Active Setup, Installed Components

  5. Click the {44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C} key.  In the right pane, double-click IsInstalled.  Change the value from 1 to 0 (zero) and press Enter.

  6. Click the {89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383} key.  In the right pane, double-click IsInstalled.  Change the value from 1 to 0 (zero) and press Enter.

  7. Close the Registry Editor.

  8. Run ie6setup.exe to obtain the updated files, then restart the computer.  Obtain the most recent security updates for Internet Explorer and Outlook Ezpress from Windows Update.

The repair tool can now be started by double-clicking "Microsoft Internet Explorer..." in Add/Remove Software, and choosing the Repair option.

If the errors still occur, click Start, Run, type SFC and press Enter to launch the System File Checker, then follow the prompts. This will replace any damaged, missing, or incorrect versioned files.

After the computer restarts, visit Windows Update to reinstall any updates which have been overwritten.

LOL i know im late....4 years late....but one simple answer. USE MOZILLA FIREFOX. I dont even know if firefox was made 4 years ago, but i nkow netscape has been. even it is decent, and is actually quite good in virus protection! of course, internet explorer gets errors every 5 seconds, literally. it just has a default internal setting that ignores any error that is considered 'healthy' for your computer. yes, healthy. that is its terminology. it means 'nothing too serious will completely destroy cour comp.' you just needed a new browser.
