Sandy, you don't mention your operating system, but if is Windows 95 or Windows 98 or Windows 98 2
nd Edition, you can download a Dial-up Networking upgrade.
Dialup Networking upgrade version 1.4If you go the Control Panel, Internet Options you can check your connections. Click the "Connections" tab, then select your dial-up. Click the "Settings" button, then the "Advanced". In the "Advanced Dial-up" window, if you see checks in the two options:
(1) Disconnect if idle for more than
15 minutes
or
(2) Disconnect when a connection may no longer be needed.
I suggest you uncheck both options and click OK on each window to close.
Finally, I have had very good success with a high speed dial-up cable from Belkin. I have used this cable with a number of different systems and it always improves the connection and the "through put". I have found this cable at Wal-Mart in the computer section for about $14.00. This might give you a better connection.
Belkin High Speed Cable I hope something here helps!
