For the last few days I keep getting disconnected from the internet. Sometimes it only lets me stay on for about 30 seconds. Often when I try to reconnect it tells me that the line is busy etc. I have Meganet, not AOL. My daugters computor in her bedroom is not having any problems and we share the same internet account. Any ideas??? I have updated Norton anti-virus.

There is a possibility that your settings have changed in your Dialup routine, this happened to me recently, try calling your Internet Provider and asking them for a suggestion, sometimes a slight change in those settings can make all the difference. Let us know how it goes!

Sandy, you don't mention your operating system, but if is Windows 95 or Windows 98 or Windows 98 2nd Edition, you can download a Dial-up Networking upgrade.

Dialup Networking upgrade version 1.4

If you go the Control Panel, Internet Options you can check your connections. Click the "Connections" tab, then select your dial-up. Click the "Settings" button, then the "Advanced". In the "Advanced Dial-up" window, if you see checks in the two options:

(1) Disconnect if idle for more than 15 minutes
or
(2) Disconnect when a connection may no longer be needed.

I suggest you uncheck both options and click OK on each window to close.

Finally, I have had very good success with a high speed dial-up cable from Belkin. I have used this cable with a number of different systems and it always improves the connection and the "through put". I have found this cable at Wal-Mart in the computer section for about $14.00. This might give you a better connection.

Belkin High Speed Cable

I hope something here helps!

Thank you so much Chris and Dwight! I downloaded version 1.4 (I have windows 98). I was afraid that it would disconnect me before the download finished, but it didn't. It does not seemed to have fixed my problem though. I am going to buy a Belkin High Speed Cable tonight, and I am waiting for my internet provider to open so I can call them, and ask for their advice. If you think of anything else, please let me know.

After I downloaded version 1.4, I restarted my computer, connected to the internet and was almost immediately disconnected. I thought things had not improved. I reconnected and have now been on for almost an hour.....so I have hope!! Thanks so much for your help!
