Ask has done it again, changed things up and to me it seems harder to find things I am looking for -

Google seems to be as finicky.

Are there alternative search engines out there that will allow a person to search by categories like "technical" over "advertising"? (and similar)

Some times I do a search and I get all of these pages selling me something while I am trying to do research in a subject. Any SE out there that does a better job?

I collect search engines and the best basic search engine links to the Google search (with no ads) is www.searchmash.com
Has an image searchlink but thats only accessible after the first search
Here's what its capable of..www.searchmash.com/about/features.html

I think its a great beginners search engine (not full featured

As for what I use to grab result (from Google and many other search engines) is www.zuula.com

starts out with a plain homepage ike Google and Searchmash yet there is a small difference i can swich the search with a few clicks of the tabbed links Default is Googe minus ads

Is possible to go to 18 engines with my query

I won a prize for discovering this Cool

and a few weeks later I topped that discovery
A wee bit ...works much the same as the other sites I have shown you (So far)and You'll agrre when I say ...WOW! on the numbers of engines used on the site Eek

Here is the entire Posting I made
quote:
www.zuula.com was Posted by Me a few issues ago and I got Tip Of the Fortnight (Thank you)

And I thought nothings going to equal that on performance and last night I was idly surfing around some search sites and I came across a Blogger who posts reviews of search engines..A lot of which are too specialised for the average surfer and near the bottom of the List was a small entry for a Multi search engine called www.Trovando.It "It" meaning it comes from Italy

Clicked the Link expecting an Italian Language site...NO Is in English
Question? How many engines does the average meta search site run to? Perhaps a dozen?
Zuula goes to 18 crossing the tabbed search (all sections)
That's good
NOW...Trovando.It does the same speed search as Zuula Click the engines beneath the search box (No Tabs.. But layout is clear)...Many more categories
OH Guess how many search engines to access 20?...Bit more...30?..keep going....Give up?

The Total is..Drum roll...3351 engines! and seems development has halted in 2005
Has some key sites like www.refdesk.com and Newer search engines missing But as a 1 stop site that's only a minor niggle

And there's more...
There is a Toolbar for the Google Personalized search page can test it out on this page without obligation to install it http://googlemodules.com/module/55/
Is available also for Firefox and IE Have this Trovando page to see how good this is
This is the One you should save and Use. And Zuula can go on the Back burner. Has some of the Recent search engine sites which Trovando has not got listed
Just keep these 2 sites bookmarked and Junk the rest

All I can say is Enjoy!

Do you display them on top of the piano or in a cabinet?

I have been interesed in finding these since I started surfing Many of which flagged up on commercial software and its become a bit of a hobby finding Meta search engines with different names and seeing if they lead to more. Best find was Trovando which was on a tiny link off another search site

And Never told anyone this I used to buy radios (pre internet) with multibands and see what I could pick up So I have shortwave ,vhf,Marine band .Air band radios even CB (full of potty talkers) Mad

All I have now is a clock radio, an airband radio plus a 4 piece set of PMR 446 Walkie talkies (which I brought last week)
