Well I've got two problems with the voice chat. I just bought a headset to use for the voice chat, but the Audio Tuning Wizard won't acknowlege the mic part of the head set. I can hear my own voice on the mic, but it isn't working out on voice chat. Can anyone tell me why, and what I should do?
The other problem was that when I start the voice chat, it just suddenly ends the conversation automatically. I'm wondering if it's because of the mic problem or what. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

Try recording your voice. As you speak into the microphone, after clicking the "record" button, you should "see" your recording by the audio signal spikes.

Click "Help" in the sound recorder for instructions for recording sound.

If you don't hear your sound, double click the "Volume" icon in the System Tray (the yellow speaker found down near the clock).

This will open the "Play Control" window. Check for "checked" mute options in the Microphone. Click the "Options" menu and set the microphone option, if necessary.

Click the "Advanced" button (under the microphone, if you see it) and under "Other Controls" uncheck the "1 mic boost" option, if it is checked. If you don't see an "Advanced" button under the microphone, click the "Options" menu and then the "Advanced Controls".

This may take some trial and error checking to determine the correct settings for your sound card setup.

If you don't see the "Volume" icon in the System Tray, click:

Start
Settings
Control Panel
Multimedia (or Sound & Multimedia, if WinME)

Check the option to show the volume control on the Taskbar.

Thanks for the help, but it still didn't work. I have absolutly no idea why my computer isn't picking up my microphone. I can hear my own voice through the speakers and everything, but that's all that seems to be happening. Is there anything else I can do or try?

Perhaps the fault is with the microphone itself. If possible, test the microphone on another computer and verify that it is working correctly.

And if you can, use a different microphone with your computer and see if it works correctly.

Download the setup program off www.paltalk.com (930k) simple to use ,has a test for your mike in it..if you think you have got it righe then go to the next step...
Register and logon to the site,the people there will help you out with your mike probs(you can talk to/hear them as well as text them . Sometimes you may be able to get a webcam view as well.
BTW- Your inability to make your equipment work on a Microsoft site is nothing new I cannot use the "Passport" scheme ,I have a top spec computer running XP (1.7ghz Athlon),yet my Nephews can log on "no probs!" with an 600mhz Pentium (Win98se)
Maybe we have to have the "touch"?
seriously though, I've seen others in the same predicament as us .We just have to make the best out of the situation
Ps you have done the right thing so far,your setup sounds ok, the fault lies in the Microsoft setup software (possibly corrupt (or it does not like your mike( incompatible?)) reload the software and have another go?
