I have been using my desktop using Verizon DSL through a Westell 6100 modem. I now would like to be able to connect my laptop as well (simultaneously). Is it possible to be connected with both computers at the same time?

If it is - how would I accomplish this? If it is not, what do I need to do in order to have both connected to the internet? The laptop does have wireless capability, but I do not have a router.

I'm not very good with setting things up, so any instructions need to walk me through what I need and how I need to get it done.

Thanks, in advance, for any assistance!

Oh - and HELLO for any who read this and say "OMG - Lydia IS still out there" Big Grin

Thx!
Lyds

Hi Lydia
I have a partial solution
To link your PC and Laptop together You'll need a special "Bridging USB Cable" (which has a circuit "built in") and you connect it in the usual way OK? Has identical ends (about $15)
www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/248
This will give you "full speed" between both computers But You may have to switch on the Remote Desktop Connection (In Accessories)
and will Need the Computer "Name" to authorize the link (In System properties) Mine Goes s**ll-a***b*a**. (random numbers & letters(I splatted most of it...Never know who's looking Roll Eyes) NOTE Hackers see this and they'll grab control in no time Mad
If you have not got the MS Remote Desktop connection Link. download it to both computers from here www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/do...ools/rdclientdl.mspx

It may be preinstalled?
To check read these instuctions
quote:
This software package will install the client portion of Remote Desktop on any of the following operating systems: Windows 95, Windows 98 and 98 Second Edition, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, or Windows 2000. (This is the same version of the client software as in Windows XP Service Pack 1.) When run, this software allows older Windows platforms to remotely connect to a computer running Windows XP Professional with Remote Desktop enabled.

This package provides flexible deployment options of the full Terminal Services Client, including auto-repair through Windows Installer technology and application publishing via IntelliMirrorâ„¢ management technologies or Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS).

Note The Remote Desktop Connection software is pre-installed with Windows XP. To run it, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, click Communications, and then click Remote Desktop Connection. This software package can also be found on the Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Home Edition product CDs and can be installed on any supported Windows platform. To install from the CD, insert the disc into the target machine's CD-ROM drive, select Perform Additional Tasks, and then click Install Remote Desktop Connection.

As I say it needs tidying up but I think it will suit your Purposes Smile

Thanks Bedstor. I'm curious though - do I need to connect the two together and if so, what exactly does this mean? The desktop is my own computer. The laptop is a company laptop (I am working from a home office). I don't want the laptop to really have access to my desktop.

I would suggest that the easiest method of doing this without a router would be using a "Switch". These would be connected in this order:
Your Westell 6100 modem
The Switch Like this one
Desktop computer
Laptop Computer

And that is it.

Wow - thanks Dwight, that sounds easy and a quick search looks like it's only about $30.00.
Cool - I will likely give that a go!
Thanks guys, AnswerPool always comes through!
