Is there a good free personal webpage hosting/creation service out there that is as easy as geocities (simple text, simple file uploading and posting on the page) but actually works?

I find that geocities (JAVA based application) refuses to save most times, refuses to show me pages I already have**, and freezes up and of course has to have that damned explorer browser to work.

I need a working alternative here.

**I do have the latest JAVA and the latest Explorer (along with all of the gazillion security patches for the damned thing)

Google currently offers a free page building/hosting tool, called Google Pages. It works in most browsers (Firefox, IE, etc), no java necessary. If you already have a Gmail account, no additional signup is necessary.

Microsoft also offers a free hosting service (Microsoft Office Live Basics), and throws in a free domain (.com). Editing tools only work with Internet Explorer. This is aimed at small businesses.
