As some of you might be aware, I have not been to our 2 "brother and sister" sites in quite some time. Apparently something has changed in the format which has caused the office's firewall to put a block on them due to a potential virus threat...or "inappropriate conduct". But interestingly enough, I can't get to the same sites from my home computer. Everytime I go to either Discussionpool or Herport, and click on a post, I get a browser error..."(browser) has generated errors and will be closed" and then my computer freezes up until the internet connection ends. I don't have this problem with any other site and I don't have a firewall on my home computer.

I'm using Windows 2000 and have both IE (prob version 5) and Juno's browser. I have no luck with either browser opening these sites. Any ideas as to what is causing this and how I can repair it?

Have you tried using Mozilla Firefox? Also, many sites require that you use IE6 to work.... you could also check your computer for any virus/trojan activities.... I just tried both site & was able to get in with no problems....
Confused

Georgia , the only thing that pops up in my mind, right now, is that your level of "security" on both your browsers are set too high.I personnaly had similar problems and most of the times it had to do with "servers" or "browsers" set ups, or "pop guards" or "accelerators".It seems that some sites are highly allergic to these settings.

As a test, if nothing works, you might want to try this

Hey Georgia! Have you installed Service Pack 2? It could definately be the security level!

When I installed it, it rejected and deleted an email that I sent to myself - claiming that it was a potential danger! It contained a few harmless gifs!

Have you opened IE options and under the Security Tab entered the websites addresses on the Trusted sites list? Press the green circle icon with a white tick then click the Sites button

I have had to get into MSN by this Method for some reason ages ago,(for MSN Passport?) but I have no probs since Smile
I'd clear the cookies before doing this otherwise you might see no change Roll Eyes

You all have offered good suggestions and I have printed out this page and will work on correcting the problem when I get home. I have not installed Service Pack 2 Tree, so that might help. Where can I find that?
Nor have I added the websites as "trusted websites" so I'll try that Bedstor. I have checked my security level and they are set at medium. And I have run a virus check and have run Spybot and Adaware as well. I've also deleted cookies...yet still have the problems. Interestingly it is just on those 2 sites. Because of this, it has been suggested to me that it is possible that the software being used on these websites has a problem...possibly a downloaded ActiveX object. But since you all aren't having any problems maybe the best thing for me to do is just upgrade to IE6 and see if that corrects the problem. Thanks for all your input.

Actually I just checked out Internet Explorer 6 download from the microsoft website. It states that it is for Windows XP and I have Windows 2000. So perhaps that might not work.

Hi Georgia
IE6 is Ok for Win2000
Do these 2 downloads in this order to upgrade:
www.snapfiles.com/get/ie6.html (basic download 480k)
Then this(12MB)download which will bring it up to the SP1 Security spec.

If you haven't updated Adaware. Download the SE version. The older Version 6 updates are being reduced as more people switch over to SE (which is still free Smile
www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/
I also recommend downloading the VX2 Cleaner and Messenger-Control addons
www.lavasoft.de/software/addons/
The VX2 pest removal is not supported in the main program all you have to do is click on this and a message is shown if it find /removes any? Cool
The other plug in prevents Windows Messenger from working. This is a source of Pop-ups of the XXX type Mad
